Drugstore Lipstick Collection Swatches

Hello there! In my last post, I shared with you some swatches of my drugstore lip gloss collection. Today I am going to show you all of my drugstore lipsticks! I actually don’t wear lip products (except for lip balm) very often. When I do, I tend to reach for my Revlon Lip Butters. I’ll be doing a completely separate post on the lip butters next. But for now, I’m going to focus on my lipsticks.

I am going to divide this post by color family: Pinks and Reds. Here are lip swatches of the Pinks, and I'll have individual swatches below. **Click on images to enlarge!**

Clockwise from top right corner: Revlon Baby Pink, Maybelline Born With It, Covergirl Watermelon Twist, Milani Vivacious Fuchsia, and Covergirl Fairytale

Packaging

Baby Pink, Born With It, Watermelon Twist, Fairytale, Vivacious Fuchsia

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick- 020 Baby Pink

To be honest, I’ve never worn this lipstick except to swatch it. I found this on clearance for about $2 because this line of Revlon lipsticks is discontinued. I thought it was so pretty when I first bought it, but I haven’t even worn it since! But after swatching it today, I think I will reach for this more often. Baby Pink is a cool toned pink with a very fine silver shimmer. The formula is very creamy and pigmented. I think this shade might be a little too pale for everyday wear, but definitely pretty.

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick- 015 Born With It

I reviewed this color a few years ago on this blog. It was one of my first drugstore lipsticks and I’ve loved it ever since. Born With It is absolutely a “my lips but better” shade for me. It is a little warmer in color than Baby Pink. It is perfect to wear every day and is appropriate any time of day. The formula is very creamy and comfortable on the lips. I believe this lipstick will flatter most skin tones.

Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm- 215 Watermelon Twist

This jumbo lip pencil is perfect to throw in your purse without worrying about it. It twists up to expose more product. Watermelon Twist is a pretty, bright, warm pink, very similar in color to the Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart. For me, the formula drags a little on my lips and isn’t the most moisturizing, but still wears comfortably.

Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick- 405 Fairytale

This is another lipstick I haven’t actually worn before. From the swatch you might understand why. This baby is BRIGHT. Fairytale is a vibrant coral lipstick. This is another product that is just a little bit dry to my taste. Other reviews on these lipsticks claim that these are moisturizing. But when I apply this I get little dry patches of color, as you can probably see in the swatch above. I need to rub in the color with my fingers to even everything out. Maybe when I’m feeling super sassy I’ll finally wear this color out. It would be perfect for a girl’s night out!

Milani HD Advanced Lipstick- 112 Vivacious Fuchsia

I received this product from Milani a few years ago from a giveaway, and shared swatches on my blog previously. I just wanted to give this lipstick some more love. Vivacious Fuchsia is exactly what its name says, vivacious and fuchsia. It glides on so smoothly and it smells heavenly! It has a fruity watermelon scent, which might bother some people. This is a great color for a night out or if you’re feeling sassy during the day. These HD Advanced lipsticks might be discontinued because I found a few in my local Dollar Tree.

Now on to the Reds.

Counterclockwise from top left corner: Milani Candy Apple, L'Oreal Blushing Berry, Revlon Cherries in the Snow, NYX Mary Janes, and Maybelline Red Revival

Candy Apple, Blushing Berry, Cherries in the Snow, Red Revival, and Mary Janes

Milani HD Advanced Lipstick- 114 Candy Apple

I found Candy Apple in my local Dollar Tree for only $1 when the original retail of these were about $8. That's a steal! This is a bright pinkish red that glides on super nicely. It isn't totally opaque which makes it pretty wearable. I think this is a red for the summer.

L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick- 590 Blushing Berry

I'm in a performance group at my university and we were told to wear a berry red lipstick. I went on a hunt for the perfect one, and this is the one I've been wearing the last three years. It is a little bit deeper in person. This is the color I think of when I think of berry lipsticks. The formula is nice and creamy.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick- 440 Cherries In The Snow

This is one of Revlon's iconic shades that has survived for years. Cherries in the Snow is a bright pinky toned red. It's a little more red in person but this swatch shows the pinkness of it really well. The formula is creamy like a dream, and this color stains my lip a bit. Perfect for the cold winter months!

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick- 645 Red Revival

Last fall, I was determined to find my perfect red lipstick. I was down the makeup isle, and saw a poster for the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks. I adored the lipstick the model was wearing and it told me which one it was. I bought it and fell in love. This swatch doesn't do the color justice, especially with that line on my upper lip. (Sorry!) This red is a little bit of a deeper red in person, and I swear it is the perfect red for me.
Here is a picture of me wearing Red Revival. (My first time showing my face on this blog... ahhhhh!!!)

Me wearing Maybelline Red Revival

NYX Butter Lipstick- BLS08 Mary Janes

Mary Janes is actually very similar to Maybelline Red Revival. I had to buy this after seeing swatches online. It applies so easily and it is a nice deep red. I'll definitely be alternating between this and Red Revival in the fall and winter months when I gravitate towards reds. I've read that many people think the NYX Butter Lipsticks are cheaply packaged, but I kind of like it. It's not nearly as chic as the Revlon Superlustrous packaging, but I think it's pretty durable.

Those are all of my drugstore lipsticks. Some might say I have too many or too little. I think I have just enough variety to get me by on a poor college girl's budget. I hope you enjoyed the swatches & I'd love to know what drugstore lipsticks are your favorites!

Have a lovely day!! :)

Latest Target Haul!

Hello there! I have recently been spending money that I don't have left and right. I buy things on impulse too often. It's a real problem. But I was in Target about a week ago, and picked up a lot of basic products that I was running out of. All of these products I bought were things I really wanted to try, and had not previously owned (with the exception of the  mascara and concealer pen). Let's jump into the haul!

Garnier Moisture Rescue Gel Cream
Olay Wet Cleansing Cloths

I was running out of my current daily moisturizer (Aveeno Ultra Calming), and I was kind of tired of my Pond's Dry Skin cream that I use every night. I saw this Garnier Gel Cream, and I was intrigued. I've been using it day and night the last few days, and I really enjoy this! The gel is super refreshing, and it smells amazing!

The Olay wipes are pretty good at removing make up and making my face feel clean. My only complaint is that this stings my eye pretty badly. I don't go around touching my bare eyeball with these. But the moisture burns my eyes somehow. I don't like that very much.

Sinful Colors 24/7
Revlon Colorstay top coat

I've been wanting to pick both of these up, and finally did it! 24/7 is a bright hot neon pink. I have it on my toes and love it! The top coat is fantastic! It really makes my nails shine, and the polish lasts longer. Also, the brush is really interesting because it has two brushes as you can see in the picture. Makes application easier.

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer in Nude
Maybelline Master Precise liner
Maybelline Sunbaked Neutrals palette

If it isn't apparent, I really like Maybelline products. It's one of my most bought brands. It isn't my favorite brand, but definitely a go-to for certain things like liners and face products. I had already owned the concealer in Buff. I couldn't find that shade, and sadly Nude isn't quite for me. Good product for the under eye area though. I can't find the Line Stiletto liquid liner anymore so I'm assuming it is being discontinued, but this liner pen works even better! Very easy to use and very opaque. I've been wanting this Sunbaked Neutrals palette for a while and decided to get it for travel. Great pigmentation, and fabulous for everyday wear.

Revlon PhotoReady concealer in 002 Light
Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme foundation in 200 Sand Beige
Revlon PhotoReady Perfecting primer

I love Revlon lip and nail products, and I have always wanted to give they're face products a try. So far, I am incredibly pleased with the quality of these. Revlon truly is the high-end of the drugstore world. The concealer only came in two shades, and this one was the closest to me. I like it for covering redness, but it doesn't cover blemishes very well. I have been dying to try this Whipped foundation. I was worried I wouldn't choose the correct shade for my skin, but miraculously chose the perfect shade for me! I love how this applies and it truly STAYS all day! Even without the primer. Speaking of primer, I had never used a primer in my life, but thought this would be good for really long days. I really like it so far! Does a good job of extending my foundation's wear, which already wears long on its own.

(From left to right, clockwise)
ELF Studio Blush in Pink Passion
Elf Studio Blush in Tickled Pink
Elf Studio Blush in Mellow Mauve
Elf Studio Brow Kit in Medium

I REALLY love these four products! The blushes are fantastic quality, and I adore the packaging. Tickled Pink is my perfect everyday color. Pink Passion is a tad bit chalky, but look how bright it is! The brow kit is decent. I used to never do my brows, but now I like to define them a bit. I think if they had a dark kit, that would suit me better. But this does a nice job of defining my brows.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my latest Target haul! I am very pleased with all of these products.

Pretty Peacock Eyeliner Two Ways: A Tutorial

Hello there! I have been addicted to Pinterest lately, and I came across a beautiful picture, which I'll share at the end of this post. I wanted to recreate the look for my brown eyes. After doing it similar to the picture, I decided to put the color on my upper lash line instead. So here are my two different peacock eyeliner looks! I'll have a list of products used below the pictures!! Make sure you click on the pictures to get a better look at them!

Lower Lash Line Peacock Liner:
This is a subtly dramatic look that is good for a night out.
-Maybelline Color Tattoo in Too Cool as overall base.
-Mac Painterly Paint Pot as base for lower lash line.
-Sweep shimmery bronze shade all over lid and crease area.
-Take purple, blue, and green liner to line bottom lash line. This will be a base for the eyeshadow. I used a Turquoise and Amethyst liner.
- Pat coordinating eyeshadow on top of the liner. Start with the purple, then work your way from blue to green. This makes blending much easier.
-Apply shimmery champagne shade to inner corner & brow.
-Line upper lash line, I used a liquid liner & line lower water line, I used a pencil.
-Also, I think it would look better if you tight lined your upper water line. I didn't do this, but I think it would have looked better.
-Curl lashes & apply mascara!

Upper Lash Line Peacock Liner:
This is a more wearable colorful look.
-Apply base all over lid, I used Maybelline Color Tattoo in Too Cool.
-Again, use the colored pencil liners as a base for the eyeshadows, this time on the upper lash line.
-Dampen a thin liner brush in water and squeeze excess water from the brush.
-Start with purple eyeshadow, then blue and green. Make sure to pat it on, don't sweep it. Gently blend.
-Sweep a bronze shade all over lid and crease, avoiding the liner.
-Apply shimmery champagne shade to inner corner & brow.
-Line as close to your lashes as you can with a black gel liner.
-Line lower water line with black pencil & lower lash line with a bronze pencil.
-Again, I think it would have looked better if it tight lined my upper water line.
-Curl lashes & apply mascara!

Inspiration For This Look:

Mermaid Freeze: An Eye Tutorial

Hello there! I have a quick eye look I created purely out of boredom. I recently bought a L'Oreal Hip eye shadow duo in "Showy". It is SO pretty. It has a greenish-blue turquoise shade, and a deep navy blue. This duo was on clearance at Target for about $2.00. Here's the look...please excuse the pictures. They weren't in the best lighting, and they are quite blurry. Also, you can' see the true colors of the shadow here. But you get the idea!

Products Used:
Mac Painterly Paint Pot & Maybelline Color Tattoo in Too Cool
Maybelline eye shadow duo in Shocking Seas
L'Oreal Hip eye shadow duo in Showy
Maybelline Linestilleto liquid eyeliner
Wet n Wild Color Icon pencil in Turquoise (as a base & on bottom lash line)
Wet n Wild Color Icon pencil in White (waterline)
L'oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara

L'oreal Hip Showy, Maybelline Shocking Seas

L'oreal Showy

Maybelline Shocking Seas

This isn't the most wearable look. I was just really bored and wanted to try something fun and colorful! You will probably see a lot more random, colorful eye looks in the near future! =)

My Everyday Drugstore Lipstick Swatches

I actually don't wear lipstick everyday....I just meant that these are lipsticks that I feel are appropriate for any day wear. These are all drugstore brands and very affordable. In the pictures below, they all look quite the same. However in the swatch images, you can see the differences. I should have nuded out my lips with concealer, but I didn't want my lips to completely dry out on me!!
Make sure you click on the images to enlarge them if you want to get a closer look!!

Here is what the tubes all look like from L-R: Avon Ultra Color Rich in Sparkling Warm Rose, NYC Ultra Moist in Cafe & Petal, Maybelline Colorsensational in Born With It, and L'Oreal Color Riche in Honey Peach

*Note that there are two of each following image. The top photo will be in natural sunlight, and the photo on under that will be in artificial florescent light.

Here are some hand swatches:
L-R: Sparkling Warm Rose, Honey Peach, Born With It, Petal, and Cafe

L-R: Cafe, Petal, Born With It, Honey Peach, and Sparkling Warm Rose

Here are swatches on my lips:

My natural lips with nothing on them. About 99.9% of the time, I'm wearing some sort of lip balm.

NYC Ultra Moist "Cafe" applies very smoothly and is a very pretty caramel bronze shade! However, both NYC lipsticks smell like they cost...CHEAP! For only .98 cents though, these have pretty good pigmentation.

NYC Ultra Moist "Petal" is a brilliant shade for spring! It is a bright pale pink. (bright pale sounds like an oxymoron...right?) Again, this smells cheap and doesn't wear for long, but is a beautiful color! Goes on really smoothly.

Maybelline Colorsensational "Born With It" is my FAVORITE lipstick of all time. It is a lovely pale pink. It's my "my lips but better" lipstick. It applies and wears pretty well. It is so creamy! I'm almost out of this shade, but I know i'll be picking up a new one soon!

L'Oreal Color Riche "Honey Peach" smells lovely. Has a fruity scent that I like, but some women might not enjoy it so much. This is a really pretty peachy summer color. In person it is a bit more orange on my lips, but not in a wonky way. This is a nice and creamy formula. I don't believe this is sold anymore because I got it on clearance for $2.14 at Walgreens about a year ago. But they have a very similar shade called Peach Fuzz that might still be around!

Avon "Sparkling Warm Rose"is a very pretty lippie indeed! It is a warm pinky rose color with really pretty shimmer in it. I love wearing this when i do a more natural eye. I use it to play up my lips a bit, as it is brighter than I'm used to wearing. I'm so sad because mine snapped & i lost ALOT of product from that. :( I tried to save it by melting it with a lighter and refrigerating it, but that was no use. Now I just use a brush or clean finger, which actually looks better to me.

I hope that these swatches were okay! I've never really swatched anything before and was bored. So I figured I'd share some cheap but lovely lipsticks! These were all WAY under $10 at Walmart, Walgreens, Target, K-Mart, or any drugstore. The Avon lipstick was ordered form a friend.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
=)
